The Nativity of St. John the Forerunner - Our Patronal Feast Day - Photo Album

The celebration of our monastery’s patronal feastday, the Nativity of St. John the Forerunner, was graced by our bishop, The Right Reverend Bishop Akakije, co-celebrating with The Right Reverend Bishop Nektarije, clergymen, monastics, friends, benefactors, and the faithful who made the great effort of pilgrimage to our Mikulj mountain wilderness.

During the sermon, His Grace spoke of the immeasurable greatness of our monastery’s patron saint, St. John the Forerunner, and his multi-faceted personality: prophet, monk/hermit, apostle, confessor, and martyr. He also mentioned that the Holy Forerunner was a fearless exposer of the lawless authorities, and drew a parallel to current events of the protests against our contemporary lawless authorities.  Following the example of the Holy Forerunner, Orthodox Christians should not be indifferent to or compliant with blatant evil.  

 At the end of the service, the traditional slava bread was blessed and shared with all those present at the agape meal that followed. All the guests returned home bearing the spiritual joy and blessing which they received upon participating in the celebration of the memory of the greatest intercessor for Christians, St. John the Baptist and Forerunner of the Lord.
